As I peruse the news today, I recall to mind one immutable rule of this world. The Psalmist writes in Psalm 7:14-16:
14 Behold, the wicked man conceives evil and is pregnant with mischief and gives birth to lies. 15 He makes a pit, digging it out, and falls into the hole that he has made. 16 His mischief returns upon his own head, and on his own skull his violence descends.
Psalm 57:5-7 is similar:
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth!
6 They set a net for my steps; my soul was bowed down. They dug a pit in my way, but they have fallen into it themselves. 7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!
The wicked will fall into the pits they dig. I know it is immutable, not because I can always see that it is true. I know it is immutable because God’s word says so. To be sure, wisdom literature is not a rule that indicates a one to one correspondence, such as the law of gravity, whereby I know that every time I throw a rock into the air it will fall back to the ground. Not in every instance in which the evil dig a pit will it result in evil’s downfall. Rather, I know the trend will be that way. And in this culture, it is easier to see the trends.
As I look at the news today, evil is falling into the multiple pits they have dug. President Obama has made a shambles of America’s foreign affairs, particularly in the Middle East. Yet, Egypt is engaging terrorism on its own. This is a good thing. The Middle Eastern countries need to take more responsibility for punishing crime in their own back yards and stop relying so heavily on the United States. In doing so, they will see the evils in Islam as will all of us around the world.
President Obama continues his destruction of the medical system in the United States. People continue to see that government care is not the panacea of security that they thought it was. This is a lesson that is being learned the hard way, and perhaps it will take the actual destruction of the health care system in America to see the devastation of government subsistence. But the lesson will be well learned and it will prepare us to build anew.
Green market manipulators continue to fall into their own pits. People are beginning to see the result of the corruption of government manipulation of the economy. EPA is making noises like it will delay the implementation of the Clean Power Plan. This is a drama that will continue to unfold. But it is good to keep in mind that false prophets receive God’s special scrutiny.
The wicket undertake their schemes. But God is ultimately in control. The Obama Administration has been a consistent roadblock to energy development in this country. Despite Obama’s opposition to the XL Pipeline and in the era of predictions of less energy, God has changed the very dynamic of the energy marketplace with the expansion of shale oil as an energy source. The economy is changing and improving despite every effort of the Administration in opposition. This is God’s doing.
As events unfold, there will be many more pits dug. There will be additional turmoil. But the interesting thing in these times is that there is so much evil coming out of Washington, D.C. that the immutable principle will become more apparent. The key for Americans is to remember the words of the Psalmist: “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast! I will sing and make melody!”
